Santa Monica and Venice

We arrived in Santa Monica and looked around the pedestrian mall, where we found a mystic, or rather he found us. He talked me (Sara) into sitting at his table and then just sort of worked into the conversation that he would be reading my cards, and he would like $20 for it. Long story short we both got our cards read, were told that I was bossy and liked to eat and was recommended to move continents, Sam was indecisive and musical and was recommended to look at dead musicians for inspiration, and we were out $20. 2 for 1 though, I guess. I didn't mind giving him money too much because he was pretty funny and kind and actually did something to earn some money, most people just straight up ask for change without doing anything, and often with a grande latte in their hand. After the mystic, we went to Santa Monica pier where they have a bunch carnival rides, but the rides we all closed because of filming. Sad.

We walked along the boardwalk, through muscle beach to Venice.

We had some vegan macrobiotic lunch, which was a bit weird, but yum too. In Venice there are canals running through the town that were originally a tourist attraction with gondolas, but they just have private canoes now.

Along Venice beach there were some pretty fun sights, roller bladers, medicinal marijuana, and heaps of vagrants and buskers. Sometimes a combo of both, one guy in a Santa hat would sing “Jingle bells, jingle bells, help me get drunk” over and over again.

On the way back to Santa Monica we came across a Claus Oldenburg sculpture which we had both studied in Art history, which was pretty cool. Next Downtown LA...
